Cards

We take after our Grannie Pammie in our love for reading cards. We read and laughed at cards for quite a long time the other day! It's another great rainy day activity!

Movie Break

Nothing like a movie break on a rainy day after working so hard to get clean rooms!

I is for Insect

We spent last week learning all about insects. We read lots of books about all kinds of different critters and learned many interesting facts. Of course we also had to make a few of our own...

Ants,

Bees,

Butterflies (symmetrical ones--you can only see half here!),

And caterpillars.

Look at that determination!

I also practiced my cutting skills

And tried some new kinds of math. I was doing subtraction!

We had to play Cooties, of course, and build our own bugs.

I always like when food is involved in the learning process. We got to eat Cheetos and see the orange stuff that gets left behind on our fingers. It's kind of like pollen sticking to bees when they fly from flower to flower!

We also tried some honeycomb.

Delicious! We may not like that they sting, but we sure do like what bees make!

The weather was nice one afternoon, so we got to play outside for a bit. We drew some insects and wrote letters on them. Mommy called out a letter, and we had to swat the right bug! That was a fun game!

We also learned about the number 2 and even made one out of yarn. Obviously that was a very exciting thing for me!

And, of course, the wonderful wall of work. We're always so proud to look back on what we studied all week!

What do you mean we didn't clean up?

C is for Colours

Last week we spent the week talking about colours. We started off by reading about Joseph and his coat of many colours. So naturally we made a "coat" with many colours to hang in the window. It's really pretty now to see the sun shine through them!

We also talked about the number 1 and made the number out of colourful buttons.

We painted the letter c with water colours.

And we experimented with mixing colours. We love using the little droppers!

We also did a colour scavenger hunt. Of course I found cars for the colours Mommy asked for!

Then she wanted us to sort these coloured pom-poms into egg cartons. She thought it would be a great activity for us while she cooked dinner.

She was wrong! We enjoyed throwing them everywhere! Though maybe her plan did work since it took the rest of the time she cooked for us to clean up our mess! Ha!

We did another experiment with food colouring in milk. Nothing happened at first.

Then we added some dish soap and those colours really spread out!

It was pretty to watch and made a mess of colours by the end!

We also had to play Candy Land to practice our colours and counting... and taking turns (which is really hard!)

And we spent some time playing in bins of rice with different scoops, measuring cups, and of course, cars. (This reminded us of the grains that Joseph stored up during the famines in Egypt.)

We also turned our names into rainbows,

And we painted using q-tips!

Although Riley Cates got stuck in her apron... Poor girl!

Those were a few of the highlights from our fun week of school last week!

Make-up

Riley Cates decided that it was a good day to learn how to put on eye make-up. She had gymnastics and wanted to look her best. She wasn't sure about it at first...

But then she was very happy after I told her how pretty she looked! I love my sister!

T is for Transportation

This was one of my favorite weeks of school because we got to learn about planes, trains, and cars! All of my favorite things at one time!

We tore up some paper and sorted it by color. Can you guess what we were making?

Yep! A traffic light!

Then we sorted all kinds of different transportation by which ones went on the land, in the air, and on the water.

We wanted to find toys that matched those categories as well!

We have lots of vehicles to choose from!

And, of course, this turned into some time driving on the roads! We talked about pushing and pulling and how that made things go.

I worked on a helicopter puzzle for a bit.

I was so proud of my finished product! That was hard work!

This was pretty funny. Mommy drew on our table! She drew a road and a car park.

But not just any car park. There were numbers and math facts in each space, and Riley Cates and I had to put the right number of cars in each space! I have asked to do this several times since then! It was so fun!

Then we painted with cars.

It was so cool to see their tracks in the paint!

Of course we had to make our own car wash after that!

Since our letter for the week was T, we practiced writing the letter outside with chalk. Yes, it has gotten quite chilly here!

We also made some things that fly in the air. We painted a hot air balloon,

And we made our own airplanes.

We did a little experimenting with ramps. We predicted which things would roll best, and then we changed the height of the ramp to see if that would change anything.

Yay for TRAINS! This was a hard one. The wheels of the train were the letters of the alphabet, and I had to put them in order. It took me a while, but I got them all on there!

And my reward was to play with Thomas and his friends!

We love cooking projects,

So we made traffic signal cookies! Well, really we made M&M cookies but made sure to include red, yellow, and green in the right order on a few. Any excuse to make M&M cookies, right?

Riley Cates just wanted any excuse to eat M&M's! I don't think you can quite see how much chocolate is on her face...

And our work wall. What a fun week!

It was fun to be back at school this week after our holiday!
